University of Connecticut Husky
High up in the cheap seats, I sat trying to pay attention to the action on the court when the guy sitting next to me started talking about why the Husky is the mascot of the University of Connecticut.
"It's because 'UConn' sounds like 'Yukon' and the teams wanted to seem more like grizzled, subarctic pioneers than genteel New Englanders!"
I nearly committed a technical foul then and there! Had he been raised properly, perhaps with an adorable, round stuffed animal as Exhibit A, he would know that being from Connecticut is awesome and the Husky has been the mascot since before UConn was UConn!
Start 'em young, folks - you won't regret it!
