Mini Squishable Owlcub
Mini Squishable Owlcub
About the Designer
Maybel K. Hi, I've been drawing since I can remember. But I've only started recently drawing seriously the last 8 or so years. I mostly do digital art, but sometimes I also venture into the realm of traditional art, lol. I love animals, and plushies, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity of designing a Squishable.
Mini Squishable Owlcub

Due in Winter 2014

Bears! We love 'em! They're roly-poly and curious, and we share similar tastes in berries! But they're a little lacking in the intellect department! Also, they tend to sleep for months at a time, which, while adorable, makes them less-than-ideal companions during the winter months!

Owls! We love 'em too! They're whip-smart and know a lot of stuff about a lot of things, including barns! Which can be handy! Yet they consistently fail to accurately gauge the temperature of other people's porridge (that was a Goldilocks joke)!

The solution: A hybrid! Get all the pleasant plumpness of a bear with the knowledge of an owl, and you get this here Owlcub! Hug an Owlcub - it's two snuggles in one!

The Owlcub is a Limited Edition design with hand-numbered tags from 1 to 1,000. Once they're gone...they're gone!

7 squishy inches of combo cuddles, polyester fiber, ages 3 and up!

4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 A little wonky

I was super excited to finally pop this guy outta the box, but I noticed right away he was a On closer inspection, I found a few oddities - he has a toe that is drastically smaller than the others, many loose threads, one of his eyes is higher than the other, and his tail was not only sewn on crookedly, but it's attached to the side of his backside rather than the center (and not just by a tiny bit - it's totally a couple inches off-center!). I'm not sure if the whole batch turned out a little weird, or if my guy's just an unusual case. Despite this, he's still a very well-designed, adorable plush, so I won't be returning him. Of all the Minis currently available, I'd say he definitely has the best color scheme!

We love Squishables at my place. One of the things we've noticed in our growing collection is that all of the Squishables look a bit different in person, as in they don't all come out exactly like the pictured one on the order page, of course. This is mostly cool, offering everyone their own unique Squish. Another thing is, upon being rescued from their cramped shipping quarters, they all seem to need a moment of fluffing up and then a gentle kneading to bring their forms out. My owlcub, however, arrived not only out of shape from shipping and such, but also feeling ever-so-relatively underfilled, similar to what another reviewer mentioned of a different owlcub. Being as this Squishable already has an unfamiliar shape - I mean, this is a highly unusual critter - having the owlcub be able to maintain a shape closer to the one pictured on the sale page would probably be very helpful. In other words, I struggled awhile to see in its overall squished shape the particular Squishable form pictured above. Beyond that, his wings aren't quite the same red as the rest of him, and that contrast kind of jumps out - though the wings themselves are, somewhat sadly, immovable. His toenails, while essentially the same sort of construction as that appearing on other Squishable's nails, come off as a tad too long, in that they appear slightly flimsy as constructed. I've also already found some of his feather-hair shedding - just a sprig - but I haven't really moved him around much in the three days I've had him. Nevertheless, he is an interesting Squishable. He definitely seems like a magical creature, some sort of burgeoning shaman perhaps. His eyes are somehow both beady and wide, and give him a definite owl intensity yet a cute openness. Though the wrong-looking red on the wings (probably down to the difference in material covering them), and maybe even the very bright yellow of his beak-nose and talon-claws, are distracting at times, looking down at his open face and forward posture still stirs the "awww" and makes it all more than, um, bear-able, really. To be clear, I'm not recommending against this cutie with these critiques. I felt that these issues did need to be addressed though. In any case, this here owlcub fellow is by no means a shapeless blob either. Plus I do find his feather-fur extremely soft and silky. His feathers-tail is wonderfully made with an exquisite texture too, as well as a truly delightful super-bounciness. Now I gotta get busy naming him - owl AND bear, oh my!

When my husband first saw this guy he wanted it. I had never seen him get so excited about any other squishable before so I knew I had to order him for him. He appropriately named him "Hootie" and he's his 2 favorite colors. He now lives on our bed with the rest of my squishables..All 4 of "Claw", my crab.."Hermie", my hermit crab.."Humpy", my humpback whale..."Man-i-tee", my newest addition manatee...I also have "Corwin", my yeti and my 2 micros, "PB the jellyfish and "Manny" the manatee.

I just got my Owlcub today, and I must say he's too cute for words! He's in great condition, and it was a complete joy to see him essentially pop out of the box on arrival. I have no complaints whatsoever, he's absolutely perfect. After having such a great experience with him as my first Squishy, I can definitely say I'll be coming back for more!

While the idea of the Owlcub/Hoobear is exciting and totally adorable, I have to sadly rate this a 3 out of 5. Mostly because upon getting my Owlcub, the lack of stuffing in him was incredibly alarming. Between all the lumps and spaces where stuffing should be, the lack of it all was quite overwhelming. I love my Owlcub dearly, but I will probably end up spending extra money restuffing him with more fluff. For this being a new squishy available, I'm surprised that such a lack of stuffing would be shown in the very first batch of brand new Owlcubs.
